Laura Dern is an American actress born on February 10, 1967 in Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of actors Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern. She is also the great-granddaughter of former Utah governor George Dern.

She began her career at a young age by appearing on her mother's film, “Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore.” She later performed a role in the cult classic, “Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains” opposite Diane Lane.

Laura Dern gained widespread fame as an actress during the 1980s in films such as “Smooth Talk,” “Blue Velvet,” “Fat Man and Little Boy,” and “Wild at Heart.” During this time she was able work with notable directors such as David Lynch and Peter Bogdanovich. In 1991, she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for the film “Rambling Rose.”

In 1993, Laura Dern starred in the Steven Spielberg hit, “Jurassic Park.” Among her other notable films include “A Perfect World,” “The Baby Dance,” “A Perfect World,” “October Sky,” and “Daddy and Them.”

In the early 2000s, she appeared in films “Within These Walls,” “Novocaine,” “Jurassic Park III,” “Focus” and
“I Am Sam.”

Laura Dern was also part of other film productions such as “Damaged Care,” “Happy Endings,” “The Prize Winner of Defiance” “Inland Empire” and “Lonely Hearts.”

Because of her impressive acting skills, Laura Dern was awarded a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her role in “Afterburn.” This was followed by another Golden Globe Award for her part in the HBO movie “Recount.”

She is also known for her expressive support for President Barack Obama, and for her involvement in various charity works such as the “Healthy Child Healthy World” project.

Laura Dern was once involved with actors Nicholas Cage, and Billy Bob Thornton. She is currently married to musician Ben Harper.
